چکیده
The pollination syndrome of the African custard apple (Annona senegalensis Pers.; Annonaceae) was investigated to gain insights into reproductive strategy this multipurpose wild shrub. Flower visitors were collected and frequently surveyed in morning on 30 flowers plants per site, at four sites across Sudanian Sudano-Sahelian climatic zones Burkina Faso during flowering season, from May June. A total nine species insects including Coleoptera (Curculionidae, Scarabeidae), Hymenoptera (Formicidae) Diptera (Tephritidae) observed visiting flowers. Among recorded insects, two sympatric weevil (Curculioninae, Ochyromerini, Endaeus castus Schoenherr floralis Marshall) by far most abundant (97% specimens) all 120 sampled. Both fleshy petals cantharophilous Annona that they use as substrate for development larval stages. These observations echo with ever-growing number researches highlighting major role weevils pantropical Annonaceae. Our study provides first evidence brood-site mutualism between an Annonaceae its specialized pollinators.

Annona senegalensis Pers. (Annonaceae) is claimed in traditional medicine in Burkina Faso to be useful in the treatment of epilepsy. The present study aimed to investigate the phytochemical and pharmacological properties of the aqueous extracts of its root bark. The phytochemical analysis was performed using standard tests according to the Ciulei method. The acute toxicity was carried out in ra...
متن کاملBeetle pollination and flowering rhythm of Annona coriacea Mart. (Annonaceae) in Brazilian cerrado: Behavioral features of its principal pollinators
The conservation and sustainable management of Annona coriacea requires knowledge of its floral and reproductive biology, and of its main pollinators and their life cycles. In this work, we analyzed these aspects in detail. Floral biology was assessed by observing flowers from the beginning of anthesis to senescence. The visiting hours and behavior of floral visitors in the floral chamber were ...
